skilltree turns a target job title into a map: salary signals, employer demand, resume skills, gaps to close, and nearby roles you may not have thought to search for.
Why We Built This
We noticed something broken about career advice. Most guidance treats jobs as isolated destinations — “become a Product Manager” — without showing the facts, skills, and nearby options around that choice.
But careers don’t work that way. A student researching marketing or a professional considering product does not need to start with an abstract skills inventory. They need a concrete role, a realistic blueprint, and a way to see what else that same effort unlocks.
skilltree was built on a simple idea: let people start with the job title they care about, then map the skill overlap between roles. Show the shared foundation, highlight the gaps, and reveal the adjacent paths that make a plan more resilient.

METHODOLOGY
How We Map Role Options
Skill Extraction
We research each role's core competencies by analyzing real job descriptions, industry frameworks, and expert interviews. Every role gets 10 carefully chosen skills with category tags.
Role Overlap Analysis
For every pair of roles, we calculate shared skills, skill similarity, and semantic overlap. This produces a 0-100 match score and identifies the resume gaps.
Roadmap Generation
Based on the gap analysis, we generate step-by-step role plans with timelines, learning resources, and milestone checkpoints tailored to each pairing.

Our match scores are based on quantitative skill overlap analysis. We compare each role’s skill set, calculate shared competencies, factor in skill category alignment, and normalize to a 0-100 scale. Higher scores mean stronger transferable skills and easier transitions.
